When a node has been found, it is reported as a short from a node to a master-accumulating node (or Cluster), this information is valid information, but it provides no detail as to the actual shorting conditions. The Trace test is designed to analyse the circuit in more detail and isolate the fault to specific test point/s. The Trace test checks the current failing wire in the node to each and every other connected circuit (a longer process than the original Shorts test that found the fault) and thereby isolates the exact circuit which is shorting to the failing node.
