Creating the ITA Pin-Outs

The following process will guide the User through the procedure for creating a new UUT and the subsequent TPs needed to obtain a pin-out ready for building an ITA.  In the worked example in this section,  a relatively simple 8-core cable loom is used to illustrate the processes to be carried out prior to building an ITA.

Create a UUT

Using Create a New UUT from NODES™, a new UUT was created for the Test Piece called CABLE-LM using the values displayed below.  Clearly the Interface Image will not be available until after the build stage, and so for graphics that are not available at this stage, the default graphic is shown.

Create Test Points

The next step in the process is to be able to provide the IFD™ TE with the correct test point information for all the testing functions available.  Using the Test Point Add/Edit form, 16 TP were created using the Add Multiple TP function twice; once for the male connector and its specific nomenclature structure and once for the female connector.  With the bulk of the information populated by the Add Multiple TP function, the TPs were then designated a node and a nodal ground and assigned a position on the GXY graphic; the  results of this process are detailed in the summary below which is taken from the Test Point Add/Edit form.

For this Test Piece example, it was decided that the UUT would be tested using the IFD-Alpha method, and so the ITA would be designed and built to reflect this.  However, it could  just as well have been tested using the IFD-Beta method with all the test points on the female connector shorted out using a shorting link; see Designing an ITA for more details on the advantages and disadvantages of these two modes.  For this example, see the differences in connections for both of these testing modes at Test Piece Compare Modes.
Print the ITA Pinouts

From the NODES™ Options, open the Report and Results and, from the Report List displayed, open and print one of the following reports to assist in the building of the ITA for the UUT:

An example of the Basic Pin-Out for ITA Build is shown.  It provides a quick reference to the pin and their related TP, and there is an option to use the report as a QA check/build sheet.
