Prior to using the IFD™ TE on a UUT, it is recommended that a pre-functional test is carried out using the Demobox or other suitable check-UUT. This will provide the User with a confidence check to prove the operation, detection and display functions of the IFD™ TE and the supporting software are fully serviceable.
After the initial procedure of connecting the IFD™ TE, connect the Demobox to the male to male 50-pin D-sub cable – one end on the Demobox itself and the other end connected to the IDFIS™ with the Virginia Panel adaptor, or for the VIFD™ to the female 50-pin socket D-sub connector marked J1. Once connected carry out the
Powering Up process.
There is no need to power down the whole system to connect a UUT. Just Quit from any
Testing being carried out, connect up the UUT using ESD protection, and then resume testing. For large systems such as IDFIS™, it might be appropriate to power down the whole system while connecting the UUT.
Start NODES™ and Login, selecting Self-Test as the dataset. Under Tests, select 'DEMOBOX', enter a serial no and then carry out the following tests:
-
Intermittence Pre-Functional Test
-
Continuity Pre-Function Test
Intermittence Pre-Functional Test
The display will now show the Intermittent Fault Detection screen and will run the fault detection test. The User can now momentarily depress any of the test buttons on the
Demobox and the screen should display an intermittent fault graphically and in the summary list. As each event is detected, the Green status indicator should flash red with the message 'Event'.
On successful completion of the intermittent test and it has been confirmed that the sense and operation of the IFD™ TE is correct, this test should be terminated. Click on the form control cross in the top right hand corner of the application or
Close button, to stop the test and close the application. NODES™ will then display to the User the Intermittence Report screen where the output information should be reviewed for correctness and completion of information, as shown below.
Continuity Pre-Functional Test
Under the Tests, now select the Continuity Test to ensure that the DMM is correctly installed and communicating. The User might consider carrying out a number of Continuity tests with different buttons pressed to provided confidence that the test sequence and UUT orientation is correct.
On completion of the Pre-use functional test, the Demobox can be removed along with its connecting cable and adaptors, where appropriate. The User can then connect the ITA to the IFD™ TE and the UUT. Now the system is ready for testing.
The Self-Test Dataset has Demobox1-6 preconfigured UUT for allowing testing of all J1-J6 50-pin D-sub connections on the VIFD™.
